Job Description

The Science Lab Assistant is responsible for assisting in the smooth running of the science laboratory, ensuring the proper maintenance of equipment, and providing support during experiments and practical lessons. In addition, this role involves delivering science lessons, reinforcing theoretical concepts through hands-on activities, and promoting a safe and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Laboratory Assistance

Prepare and maintain lab equipment

: Ensure all laboratory equipment is well-maintained, cleaned, and ready for use during practical lessons.

Set up and assist with experiments

: Assist teachers in setting up experiments for science lessons, and provide technical support to students during practical sessions.

Inventory management

: Maintain an accurate inventory of laboratory materials, including chemicals, glassware, and other supplies. Ensure all materials are stored securely and in compliance with safety standards.

Lab safety enforcement

: Ensure adherence to safety protocols, including wearing protective gear and proper handling of hazardous materials.

Maintenance of the lab environment

: Ensure the cleanliness and orderliness of the lab, including timely disposal of waste and hazardous materials in accordance with environmental and safety regulations.

2. Teaching Assistance

Support classroom instruction

: Assist science teachers by preparing resources and materials for lessons, supervising students during class activities, and helping with administrative tasks.

Reinforce theoretical concepts

: Help students understand scientific concepts through hands-on experiments and activities. Provide extra assistance to students who require additional support.

Student safety during lessons

: Supervise and ensure the safety of students during laboratory sessions, ensuring they follow proper procedures and handle materials responsibly.

Support for assessments

: Assist in the preparation of quizzes, tests, and practical assessments, and help grade lab reports.

3. Teaching Responsibilities

Deliver science lessons

: Teach selected science topics or lessons, ensuring lessons are engaging, interactive, and aligned with both the curriculum and Islamic values.

Lesson planning

: Develop lesson plans that incorporate lab experiments and hands-on activities, promoting active learning and the practical application of scientific concepts.

Collaborate with teachers

: Work closely with science teachers to integrate lab activities into the curriculum, ensuring coherence between theory and practice.

Provide feedback

: Monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and identify areas where students need further assistance.

4. Health, Safety, and Compliance

Ensure safety standards

: Regularly check equipment and lab environments to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

First aid readiness

: Be prepared to administer basic first aid in case of accidents or emergencies during lab sessions.

Safety drills

: Participate in safety drills and encourage students to follow emergency protocols.

Requirements:

Diploma or Bachelor's Degree

in Science or a related field. Teaching qualifications are a plus. Experience working in a science laboratory, preferably in an educational setting. Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and best practices.

Fluency in English

(both written and spoken). Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Good classroom management and communication skills, with the ability to engage students in scientific inquiry

Pay: RM2,200.00 - RM3,000.00 per month
