The Lab Assistant will support laboratory operations to ensure processed quartz products (sand and powder of various mesh sizes) meet customer specifications and quality standards. This role involves sample preparation, testing, record-keeping, and assisting in maintaining the laboratory's equipment and cleanliness.
Key Responsibilities
Collect, prepare, and label samples of raw quartz and processed materials (sand and powder).
Conduct routine quality control tests, including:
- Particle size distribution (sieve analysis for mesh sizes).
- Whiteness measurement.
- Moisture content analysis.
- Impurity checks (iron, etc.).
Record, analyze, and report test results accurately in lab logs and QC systems.
Assist in calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment (e.g., sieves, whiteness meter, moisture balance).
Support the Lab Supervisor / Factory Manager in developing and improving testing methods.
Ensure safe handling of materials and compliance with safety procedures in the laboratory.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory environment.
Provide support during internal and external audits, including ISO or customer audits.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Lab Supervisor / Factory Manager.
Requirements
Minimum
Diploma / Certificate
in Chemistry, Materials Science, Mineral Processing, or related field.
Relevant lab/QC experience in mineral or materials industry is an advantage.
Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures and safety practices.
Detail-oriented with good organizational and documentation skills.
Conversation in Mandarin will be an added advantage (Read and Write), and communication in English/Malay.
Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.
Willingness to work in a factory environment.
Added Advantage (Optional but Preferred)
Experience in mineral/stone/quartz testing.
Familiarity with
XRF, whiteness meter, or sieve shaker equipment
.
Knowledge of ISO 9001 / quality management system practices.
