KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Directs and co-ordinates the operations of boilers, steam turbines, generators, central control room, chemical water treatment, CW water system, coal handling system, ash disposal system and all related plant auxiliary equipment and controls. Assures compliance with system operation orders promulgated and issued by both the company as well as SESCo (as the grid despatcher). Directs any changes in operation required by changes in conditions during his assigned shift. Lead in start-up and shutdown of Unit safely and smoothly. Manage plant upset and perform trouble shooting.
  • Assists in formulating plant operating policies.
  • To monitor, maintain and comply with all tasks in line the ISMS Manual and the ISMS Role and Responsibilities procedure.
  • To monitor, maintain and comply with all tasks in line with the Quality & Environmental Manual and the Quality and Environmental Role and Responsibilities procedure.
  • Manages the permit to work system.
  • Manage the central control room and receives and implements instructions from SDC & GSO on plant loading and operation.
  • Perform necessary operational adjustment to meet day to day system requirement and plant condition.
  • Liaise person between SDC (the State Dispatch Centre) and the power plant.
  • Carries out operational and performance testing of plant including changeover of critical equipment.
  • Assists in the training and development of operation staff.
  • Recommends short term maintenance work and perform frontline maintenance.
  • Supervises the performance of the central control room as a communications, operation and monitoring center.
  • Overall control over the plant outside of normal working hours, including security of the plant.
  • Execute the On Job Competency (OJC) implementation which includes train, assessment and evaluation.
  • Implement and maintain of Safe Work Procedure (SWP) at workplace based on the work instruction for every task/activity in BTG Section.
  • Manage, review and update the IQMS, Safe Work Procedures (SWP) and approval of permit to work system at BTG Section.
  • Focal person (PIC) during shift, off office hours and public holidays which responsible of O&M & support group section activity throughout the station.
  • Involvement on Major and Minor Overhaul in isolating, testing and commissioning.
  • Undertakes training to enable job holder to upgrade when required.
  • Wears the safety equipment provided by the company (eg. safety shoes, ear plug, uniform & etc) and abides strictly to the safety rules.
  • Carries out relevant duties that may be assigned from time to time.
QUALIFICATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • All positions in this job class require applicants to possess minimum; Degree in Engineering from Universities and Institutions of Higher Learning recognized by the Company, or
  • Diploma in Engineering/ HND in related field (SEB\'s HND program) with minimum 8 years of relevant working experience and attained relevant competencies as required would be an added advantage.
  • Five to Nine (5 to 9) years of practical experience in power station or other related industries.
SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles including delegation of work, training of subordinates, performance evaluation, discipline and hiring.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, manufacturer\'s manuals, procedures, fuels and equipment used in the operation, maintenance and repair of steam boilers, turbines and generators and auxiliary equipment.
  • Knowledge of plant safety and accident prevention measures required for operating, maintaining, and repairing all heating or power plant equipment.
  • Knowledge of thermal power plant operation and its auxiliary equipment.
  • Ability to analyze difficult and unusual technical operation or repair problems.
  • Ability to maintain, interpret and analyze operational records and data.
SPECIAL ASPECTS/MAJOR CHALLENGES OF THE JOB:
  • To perform all tasks in line with the Information Security Quality Manual (ISQM) and the ISMS roles and responsibilities procedure.
  • To perform all tasks in line with the Information Governance Policy Suite and Guidelines.
  • To comply with all requirements with regard to the Quality & Environmental Manual and the Quality and Environmental Role and Responsibilities procedure.
