KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead social and environmental assessment for new hydropower portfolios at pre-feasibility and feasibility studies in accordance with Sarawak Energy Project Model (SEPM) Front-End Loading 1 (FEL1) requirements
  • Identify, determine and develop scope of works for a Preliminary Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (Pre-ESIA) Study needed at Feasibility Phase
  • Plan and manage social and environmental impact assessment studies
  • Plan and develop the Stakeholder Communication and Engagement Plan (SCEP) for FEL1 projects
  • Provide main findings of preliminary EIA study and recommend solutions to close gaps
  • Embed the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol (HSAP) and standard into social and environmental assessment for hydropower projects to ensure sustainable hydropower development against international best practices
  • Liaise with Corporate Sustainability on the hydropower sustainability aspect as to ensure the social and environmental assessments under pre-feasibility and feasibility studies are guided by relevant hydropower guidelines and standards
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders in developing the Preliminary Stakeholder Strategy
  • Plan and conduct engagement activities
  • Prepare and manage specifically on social and environmental assessment for hydropower projects
  • Having experience in assessing international projects is an added advantage
QUALIFICATION:
  • Environmental Engineering/Science or Degree in Science specializing in natural or social sciences
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of working experience
SKILLS:
  • Excellent understanding of environmental engineering/science, social science and the overall management of environmental and social sciences
  • Strong communication and presentation skills including report writing and preparation of slide pack for information sharing
  • Very good industry knowledge in hydropower sector, renewable energy, and energy generation
  • Very good knowledge on the concept of sustainable livelihood strategies and instruments for good socio-economic survey
  • Good knowledge on basic technical aspects of hydropower development (e.g., dam design, reservoir optimization, hydrology & hydraulic)
  • Independent in project planning and organization of the tasks
