Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join this team in the role of Senior Legal Counsel.Principal Accountabilities:

  • Provide counsel and legal support on a variety of legal matters, or in a specialist area, including matters that may be complex or may have some impact.
  • To be considered to be a trusted adviser to the business by ensuring that commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal support and advice is provided in a cost-effective manner to Global Payment Services (GPS).
  • Provide support and guidance to with regard to legal risks arising in jobholder\xe2\x80\x99s area of expertise
Customers / Stakeholders
  • Provide prompt, commercial, practical and sometimes complex (under supervision) and / or specialized legal advice to Global Payment Services.
  • Be proactive in the provision of legal support and in advising the business promptly of material legal developments and their implications
  • Ensure senior legal management is fully briefed on major issues arising in relevant business area and major legislative changes in area of expertise
  • Recommend selection of panel law firms and other appropriate external parties
Leadership & Teamwork
  • Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with all team members within Asia Pacific Region / Hong Kong LGA, and business departments for which the jobholder is responsible
  • Participate effectively as part of the Asia Pacific Region / Hong Kong Legal Team.
  • Share legal knowledge and best practices with legal colleagues.
  • Manage internal support staff as appropriate
Operational Effectiveness & Control
  • Provide legal services in a cost-effective manner
  • Co-ordinate and manage the approach to legal risk in Asia Pacific Region / Hong Kong legal and business departments for which the jobholder is responsible, to ensure that the interests of the HSBC Group are adequately protected
  • Assist the business to remain compliant with legal risk management requirements set out in the Group Standards Manual and Legal FIM.
Requirements
  • Qualified Lawyer, 3 to 10 PQE;
  • Fluent Cantonese, abilities to speak Mandarin and to read and write Chinese are preferred;
  • Knowledge of and experience in banking, corporate, and digital law and a working knowledge of the laws in the major jurisdictions in which HSBC operates;
  • Knowledge and experience in payments and emerging payments an advantage, but not essential;
  • Corporate experience and Compliance experience an advantage, but not essential;
  • Qualified in Hong Kong, UK or a commonwealth jurisdiction;
  • Knowledge of the HSBC Group corporate structures, its business and personnel and a clear understanding of HSBC\xe2\x80\x99s values and corporate culture;
  • Developing Leadership skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise;
  • Good communication and inter-personal skills;
  • Lateral thinking/problem solving.
