Position Summary

The Senior System Engineer is responsible for providing technical and managerial support in the planning, development, and operation of railway systems. This role covers a wide range of tasks including feasibility studies, design review and verification, project coordination, testing and commissioning oversight, and operational support. The position requires a broad understanding of railway technologies and the ability to adapt to different assignments, whether related to conceptual studies, project execution, or operational system enhancements. The Senior System Engineer will ensure that all works are executed in compliance with safety, quality, and industry standards while supporting the Railway Manager in delivering the division's objectives.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in

Electronics/ Electrical/ Power Control/ Mechanical/ Railway Technology/ Communication/ Mechatronics Engineering

(or equivalent). Minimum

5 years of relevant experience

in railway system projects, with exposure to

project management and system integration

Key Responsibilities

Feasibility & Planning

Conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluations for new railway systems and upgrades. Assess system requirements and prepare reports to support decision-making. Provide input into conceptual designs and cost-benefit analyses.

Design Review & Verification

Review and verify technical documents, reports, and submissions from contractors/consultants for accuracy and compliance, including: Signalling & Train Control Communications Systems SCADA Power Supply & Distribution Systems Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) Trackworks Rolling Stock Cyber Security O&M requirement Ensure compliance with specifications, safety standards, and operational requirements. Check for system integration and interface compatibility across disciplines.

Project Management & Coordination

Support the Railway Manager in planning and coordinating railway projects. Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables. Liaise with contractors, consultants, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure smooth execution. Prepare progress reports and highlight risks or issues for timely resolution.

Testing & Commissioning

Oversee Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and integrated testing. Review testing procedures and verify system performance. Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate with contractors for resolution.
Support preparation of project deliverables including progress reports, test plans, and O&M documentation.

Support handover and commissioning for operations and maintenance readiness.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

Ensure all works comply with international standards, safety regulations, and project requirements. Participate in risk assessments, hazard analysis, and safety audits. Monitor contractor performance and enforce quality assurance processes.

Operations & Maintenance Support

Provide technical advice during system handover and operational phases. Review O&M manuals, guidelines, and training materials. Support system upgrades, modifications, and troubleshooting activities.

Team & Capacity Building

Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers. Promote knowledge sharing and contribute to building technical/project management capacity within the Railway Sector.

Key Skills & Competencies

Broad knowledge of

railway systems and project lifecycle management

: signalling, communications, SCADA, AFC, trackworks, power supply & distribution, rolling stock, cyber security, and O&M support. Strong ability in

feasibility studies, system design review, verification, and integration management

. Skilled in

project coordination and stakeholder engagement

. Experience in

testing, commissioning, and system integration oversight

. Familiarity with

Malaysia &

international railway standards

. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational abilities. Effective communicator with strong reporting and documentation skills. Proficiency in Mandarin as an added advantage East Malaysians are encouraged to apply.

Pay: RM3,000.00 - RM6,800.00 per month
