A Senior Executive (Level 1) possesses mid-level experience and is expected to be an expert in tasks handled by a Junior Executive, while also being capable of managing more complex and contentious work such as advising clients on opposition matters, attending hearings, and drafting agreements. The role requires strong leadership and supervisory skills to train and guide Paralegals and Junior Executives effectively, as well as the ability to serve as a primary contact for large-scale and special clients. Additionally, the Senior Executive (Level 1) is responsible for taking on and managing specific projects on behalf of the firm.
Client Consultancy
Provide consultancy services to clients on IP rights, specifically focusing on trademarks, trade secrets,copyright, and industrial design rights. Ensure clients are guided through all aspects of their IP matters.
Trademark & Design Prosecution
Prepare and manage all documentation for client trademark and design registrations, ensuring efficient prosecution of applications. Draft submissions and arguments in response to office actions and manage oppositions.
Contentious Matters & Dispute Resolution
Handle complex and contentious IP matters, including disputes, investigations, negotiations, and oppositions. Draft and review agreements and submissions for hearings and contentious cases.
Client Communication & Project Management
Act as the point of contact for large-scale and special clients, managing their specific IP needs. Lead and manage projects within the department, ensuring all objectives are met and maintaining high-quality standards.
Training & Supervision
Train and supervise junior executives and paralegals, ensuring they carry out their tasks efficiently. Review drafts prepared by junior staff and assist in creating systems and templates to increase productivity.
Thought Leadership & Knowledge Sharing
Present seminars, deliver talks, webinars, and write articles on IP-related topics. Keep updated on trends, developments, and legislative rulings impacting IP administration. Research procedural changes and serve as a subject matter expert.
Quality Control & Deadline Management
Ensure timely responses to office actions and client inquiries, adhering to strict deadlines. Review and maintain the quality of work in line with the firm's standards.
Departmental Improvement & Innovation
Propose solutions to departmental challenges, identify areas for improvement, and contribute to strategic initiatives to enhance the department's performance and workflow.
Skills & Qualifications
Degree in law, minimum Second-class honours, upper division (2.1).
Minimum of 3 years of experience in the Intellectual Property field.
Experience in conducting trademark searches and advising on trademark, design, and copyright law
Experience in filing trademarks, design, and copyright applications is required.
Excellent command of English with strong writing and verbal communication skills.
Strong conceptual, analytical, and reasoning abilities.
Detail-oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and handle pressure in a deadline-driven environment.
Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative team player.
Demonstrates integrity, ethical work practices, and a commitment to continuous learning.
Experience in managing contentious IP cases and advising clients on opposition and dispute resolution matters.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and innovation within the department.
