\xc2\xb7 Consultants and Senior Consultants are required to carry out their duties as directed by the Head of Department in accordance with the policies and guidelines set by the Hospital \xc2\xb7 Besides being responsible for patient care, Consultants and Senior Consultants, as senior officers, are expected to provide leadership to all levels of staff, including teaching, training and research. \xc2\xb7 Where serious or major clinical situations occur which would affect the well-being or lives of the patients, the Head of Department should be informed and consulted at the earliest opportunity. \xc2\xb7 Consultants and Senior Consultants should demonstrate good technical skills including operative and procedural skills \xc2\xb7 Consultants and Senior Consultants should demonstrate their sub-specialty skills and attract referrals in their sub-specialty areas. \xc2\xb7 Consultants and Senior Consultants are required to demonstrate expert knowledge in area of specialty and expertise in managing complex medical problems and complications. \xc2\xb7 Consultants and Senior Consultants should look to improve standards of clinical practice in his area of specialty and introduce new treatments and procedures. \xc2\xb7 Consultants and Senior Consultants should establish the scope of human subject research activities in his/her area of technical expertise and collaborate with cross disciplinary clinical or scientific partners where appropriate. \xc2\xb7 Consultants and Senior Consultants must ensure their commitment to the conduct of research ethics and manage any conflict of interest. \xc2\xb7 Consultants and Senior Consultants should be prepared to perform the duties of the next lower grade if necessary. Requirements \xc2\xb7 Qualified in General Ophthalmology, and having undergone further specialised training in Neuro-ophthalmology (e.g. Neuro-ophthalmology fellowship). \xc2\xb7 Must be registered with the Singapore Medical Council and must be accredited as Specialist by the Specialist Accreditation Board, Ministry of Health.
