From humble beginnings tutoring four siblings, Fugee School has grown into a thriving learning community. Our learner-centred model ensures academic and social readiness while fostering students' creativity, compassion, and critical thinking.
Role Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and proactive Social Worker to strengthen the emotional, social, and psychosocial well-being of students, families, and the wider refugee community. Working closely with the school counsellor and well-being team, this role focuses on case management, parent and community engagement, and staff collaboration.
Key Areas of Responsibility
1. Case Management and Student Support
Conduct social and emotional assessments and develop individualised support plans for students and families.
Provide short-term counselling, crisis intervention, and psychoeducation to address personal or social challenges.
Manage student case documentation, incident reporting, safeguarding processes, and referrals to external agencies.
Coordinate bursary and financial assistance applications, ensuring transparent, fair, and timely distribution aligned with school guidelines.
2. Parent and Community Engagement
Lead initiatives that strengthen family-school partnerships and enhance parental involvement in students' education.
Conduct home visits and community outreach to better understand family circumstances and provide targeted support.
Manage and monitor community-based financial support or welfare schemes in collaboration with partners and donors.
Build partnerships with NGOs, service providers, and community leaders to expand holistic support networks.
3. Staff Collaboration and School Well-Being
Support teachers and staff in managing student behaviour and emotional needs through appropriate interventions.
Promote a safe, trauma-informed, and inclusive school environment.
Collaborate with the well-being team to design and implement school-wide well-being strategies and programmes.
Participate actively in crisis response, safeguarding, and emergency support processes.
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counselling, or related field.
Minimum 2-3 years of experience in casework or community management.
Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
Fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia (knowledge of Arabic, Somali, or other refugee languages is an advantage).
Experience working with marginalised or refugee communities in Malaysia.
Able to travel within Malaysia, preferably with own vehicle.
Resourceful, empathetic, and adaptable in dynamic school and community settings.
