Job Description



Reuters is looking for an enthusiastic journalist based in Malaysia to join our expanding Southeast Asia Breaking News Hub. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment covering Malaysia breaking news across a broad range of topics, from the economy, government and geopolitics to energy, the environment and agriculture.
The Southeast Asia Breaking News Correspondent will be a confident writer who thrives under pressure, is able to pull the most important elements out of often-complex statements and breaking news events and can write clear, concise, accurate and fast headlines and stories. The correspondent will report to the Southeast Asia Breaking News Hub with a dotted line to the Malaysia bureau chief. About the Role As Southeast Asia Breaking News Correspondent, you will:

  • Monitor from a range of sources on news developments across Malaysia and other Southeast Asia countries to detect and break news fast and first
  • Write fast and accurate headlines and crisp, clear stories under time pressure
  • Work with colleagues across the Southeast Asia bureaus and across multiple areas of coverage
About You To be our Southeast Asia Breaking News Correspondent, you will likely:
  • Have at least two years of journalism experience, fresh graduates are welcome to apply
  • Have strong and proven news judgement
  • Thrive under pressure and enjoy a fast-paced work environment.
  • Be able to filter quickly through complex information to identify and explain key news elements
  • Have strong writing skills in English and be fluent in Bahasa Malaysia. Fluency in another Southeast Asia language and/or Mandarin would be a plus
  • Be social media savvy
  • Be a strong team player with an enthusiasm for learning new skills
