This role will be responsible for ensuring all Tax Compliance and Accounting activities are performed in a timely, accurate & efficient manner and in accordance with Group Policies and International Accounting standards.Key responsibilities include timely, efficient, and accurate delivery of tax accounting, compliance, and stewardship processes, with a primary focus on Direct Tax matters. This includes tax accounting processes, external reporting requirements, direct tax compliance, process improvement initiatives. You will collaborate closely with the regional tax, finance, and accounting teams to manage tax-related matters efficiently and effectively and produce results, including (but not limited to) the following deliverables:Core accountabilities

  • Conformance with the BHP Charter, BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct, and relevant statutory obligations.
  • Preparation of tax account reconciliations, monthly PEC/MEND process, deferred tax balance proofs and tax provisions within agreed timelines
  • Preparation of quarterly, half-yearly and annually tax provision and tax reporting tasks to ensure accurate tax balances.
  • Preparation of yearly tax payments, extensions and quarterly income tax instalment calculation.
  • Preparation of North America Federal and State Tax Returns, i.e. US and Canada in a timely manner.
  • Participate in risk assessment activities for income tax, SOX and other compliance related areas and ensure compliance with processes, procedures and SOX controls.
  • Review of tax sensitive accounts including liaising with management and financial accountants and the wider business where necessary to resolve queries.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities and participate in/lead special projects and initiatives related to tax compliance, process improvements, risk management and business process design changes.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the S4HANA(1SAP) Tax Accounting Solution, OneSource tax software (OIT) and CCH Corporate Taxprep.
  • Build relationships with other departments to ensure proactive engagement of the tax team for assistance with tax technical matters, including provision of tax training, analysis and technical guidance to relevant areas of the business and tax team.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and review of tax policies and procedures across all taxes and ensure compliance with these and GLDs.
  • Preparation of tax account reconciliations and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate reporting of tax-related financial information.
  • Provide support in the preparation of tax accounting position papers for major transactions and assisting Tax Reporting requests.
  • Assist on respond to tax inquiries and audits from tax authorities, providing necessary documentation and support.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the tax compliance.
About YouQualifications
  • Experience in accounting or a large corporate or professional environment.
  • Professional qualification (CPA/ACCA/CIMA/CA) either completion or currently pursuing is an added advantage.
Experience & Technical Competencies
  • Experience in S4HANA (SAP) finance modules and related systems.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting processes.
  • Understanding of US and Canada income tax is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft excel (including macros)
  • Problem-solving skills using logic and effective methods.
  • Exposure to compliance / governance activities, such as SOX.
