Job Summary:
The Senior Network Engineer (LAN & WAN) is a critical role responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of the bank's robust and secure network infrastructure. This includes managing the Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) across our primary data centers, numerous domestic branches, and international offices. The successful candidate will ensure high availability and performance to support all banking operations, digital platforms, and customer services. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to network management within a highly regulated financial services environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Design & Architecture:
Lead the design, planning, and implementation of complex LAN/WAN solutions, ensuring scalability, resilience, and security.
Develop and maintain network architecture documentation, including diagrams, inventories, and standard operating procedures.
Evaluate and recommend new network technologies and solutions to meet evolving business needs and industry best practices.
Implementation & Deployment:
Support and troubleshoot network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, wireless access points) from various vendors eg Cisco, huawei, h3c, f5 etc.
Manage network connectivity for data centers, banking branches, and international offices, including VPNs, MPLS, SD-WAN, and direct internet access.
Implement network security policies and configurations on firewalls and other security devices.
Network Operations & Maintenance:
Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and proactively implement solutions to optimize network efficiency and stability.
Respond to and resolve network incidents, outages, and performance issues in a timely manner, minimizing disruption to banking operations.
Perform regular network health checks, preventative maintenance, and firmware/software upgrades.
Manage IP addressing schemes, DNS, DHCP, and other core network services.
Maintain accurate network asset inventories and configuration management.
Security & Compliance:
Enforce network security best practices and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., BNM guidelines, PCI DSS, ISO 27001).
Implement and manage network access controls, segmentation, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
Conduct regular network vulnerability assessments and penetration testing, and implement remediation measures.
Participate in security audits and provide necessary documentation and evidence.
Collaboration & Mentorship:
Collaborate with other IT teams (e.g., server, security, application) to ensure seamless integration and support for banking systems.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior network engineers.
Work closely with vendors and service providers for network-related projects and support.
Documentation & Reporting:
Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
Generate regular reports on network performance, availability, and capacity planing
Maintenance amd update the network diagram regularly to reflect current infrastructure and changes
Jobholder Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in network engineering,
Demonstrable experience managing complex LAN/WAN environments in a large enterprise, preferably within the banking or financial services industry.
Proven experience with data center networking, including spine-and-leaf architectures, VXLAN, and BGP.
Experience with multi-site and international network connectivity.
Technical Skills (Expert Level Required):
Networking Protocols: TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, VPN (IPsec, SSL), VLANs, STP, HSRP/VRRP, QoS.
Hardware: Cisco Catalyst/Nexus switches, Cisco ASR/ISR routers, Juniper devices. huawei, H3C, F5
Load Balancers: F5 BIG-IP LTM/GTM.
Wireless: Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (WLCs) and Access Points.
Network Management Tools: SNMP, NetFlow, Wireshark, network monitoring systems
Soft Skills:
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Proactive, self-motivated, and committed to continuous learning.
Certifications (Highly Preferred):
Cisco/Huawei Certified Network Professional Enterprise or equivalent
Working Conditions:
Primarily office-based.
Participation in on-call rotation for critical incident response may be required.
Ability to work outside of standard business hours as needed for maintenance windows and critical issues.
