Education Requirements:

SKM Level 3/DKM Level 4/DLKM/Certificate/Diploma/Advance Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent work experience

Skill and Work Experience:

Some experiences in precision industry Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprint and strong attention to details Ability to operate surface grinding machine

Responsibilities:

Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of the finished parts, sequence of operations, and setup requirements Set up and operate surface grinding machines with horizontal or vertical spindles to grind flat or contoured surfaces. Studies product drawing on workpiece to visualize grinding to be done and plans sequence of operations. Selects grinding wheel, grinding speeds, and feed rates for each operation according to knowledge of metal properties and abrasives, and mounts wheel on spindle. Controls and reads dials to set rotation speeds and feed rates. Verifies dimensions of ground workpiece for conformance to specifications, using such measuring instruments as micrometers, comparators, dial indicators, gauge blocks, and load test equipment. May dress grinding wheel to specified profile for contour grinding, using special fixtures and tools Knows shop mathematics, plans and lays out own shop work. Lays out materials and scribes lines to be cut, shaped, milled, drilled, or otherwise machined. Set up, operate, or tend grinding and related tools that remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, or buff, hone, or polish metal or plastic workpieces.
