Job Description

Position Responsibilities:As the lead in implementing GEC projects focused on community-based management of mangrove and coastal ecosystems in, Johor, Perak, Selangor and Peninsular Malaysia including mangrove conservation and restoration, hydrology management, prevention of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and development of sustainable livelihood programme based on mangrove forest resources for local community groups and other related including:-

• Providing technical support on best practices in mangrove management and restoration, as well as impact evaluation techniques;
• Implementing ongoing projects on community-based management of mangrove conservation and restoration;
• Managing and coordinating mangrove-based product development projects linked to sustainable livelihood;
• Evaluating and resolving technical feasibility, design optimization, and production issues, ensuring labeling and marketing/promotional literature match product specifications;
• Researching and monitoring the existing client base and industry developments, identifying potential new product opportunities;
• Collaborating with other organizations to establish design, technology, product development, and vendor strategies;
• Developing new projects and activities in partnership with local government, community, private sector, and other NGOs;
• Managing and guiding a team of project programme officers, supporting capacity building, knowledge sharing, and resource management to ensure the team supports GEC\xe2\x80\x99s current and future programmes/initiatives;
• Supporting measures to empower and enhance the livelihoods of targeted local communities;
• Developing strategic project implementation plans and supporting the sustainability of existing community programmes;
• Developing linkages and supporting collaboration among key stakeholders in Johor, Perak, Selangor, and Peninsular Malaysia;
• Developing and implementing awareness and education programmes for school students, local communities, and other stakeholders;
• Engaging in resource mobilization activities/funding for mangrove-based product projects; and
• Supporting the development of larger proposals for project management of mangrove-based products.

• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimum supervision;
• Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s/Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a relevant discipline (product development, mangrove/coastal conservation biology, environmental science, social science, natural resource management, climate change, or programme management);
• Minimum 3-4 years of relevant working experience involving community-based product development or natural resource management;
• Strong people management and leadership skills, with a proven ability to mentor and motivate others;
• Willingness to work in field conditions and adapt to odd working hours.
• Pleasant personality with good public relations capabilities;
• Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, especially within the local community and multi-stakeholder contexts;
• Fluent in Malay and English; and
• Possess good writing and communication skills.
