Job Description

We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Technical Superintendent to oversee the technical management and safe operation of our fleet. This role carries full-spectrum responsibility for vessel maintenance, inspections, dry docking, technical procurement, budget control, and compliance with international maritime regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM).

You will play a key role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our vessels by coordinating with crew, shipyards, service providers, and regulatory bodies. From troubleshooting and repairs to managing OPEX budgets and surveys, you will be instrumental in maintaining vessel performance, minimising downtime, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Utilise troubleshooting skills and motivate crew for efficient operations. Facilitate repair services for shipboard machinery Assess machinery and plan proactive repairs & coordinate repairs with vessel operators & negotiate schedules and costs. Monitor vessel operations to prevent downtime and ensure compliance with regulations. Ensure trouble-free operation of Main Engines through effective maintenance. Analyse spare parts, fuel and lubricant oil samples for compliance. Plan and monitor vessel operational budget (OPEX). Manage vessel requisitions, quotations, and approvals. Monitor vessel performance metrics and advise corrective actions. Conduct routine vessel inspections. Vet senior officers and oversee safety management systems & conduct root cause analysis for technical issues and incidents. Coordinate shipboard annual servicing, inspections, and certificate issuance with service providers. Prepare vessels for third-party inspections in coordination with marine management to ensure vessels comply with SOLAS and MARPOL requirements. Coordinate with underwriters, surveyors, and repair companies for insurance matters. Manage surveys and certifications for vessels in Malaysia & Singapore, ensuring compliance. Liaise with underwater service providers for hull cleaning, sea chest blanking, and inspections. Prepare dry docking specifications, budgets, and reports & supervise dry docking repairs & ensure adherence to budget and schedule. Monitor dry docking costs & provide timely updates. Negotiate effectively with shipyards to reduce final billing costs.
Job Requirements:

Marine Engineer Officer (Class 1 COC preferred) or equivalent professional qualification. Minimum 5 years' sea-going experience as Chief Engineer or Senior Engineer. At least 3 years' shore-based experience as a Superintendent or in technical vessel management. Strong knowledge of international regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code) and classification society rules. Proven experience in dry docking, vessel inspections, repairs, and cost control. Skilled in performance monitoring, technical reporting, and root cause analysis. Strong negotiation and vendor management skills, with experience liaising with shipyards, surveyors, and underwriters. Excellent leadership and communication abilities with the capacity to motivate and support crew. Highly organised, independent, and able to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.

Pay: RM10,000.00 - RM12,000.00 per month
