Role Purpose:

  • To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English
  • To assist the Senior Teacher in managing academic quality in Young Learner courses
  • To provide learners with a rewarding and stimulating English language learning experience
  • To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission
Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:

Support British Council's global English strategy by:
  • Assisting the Senior Teacher Young Learners in implementing the Teaching Excellence Action Plan (TEAP)
  • Line managing up to four teachers in accordance with British Council performance enablement guidelines. Ensure observation and feedback programme is followed. Support the centre in ensuring a positive working environment is maintained.
  • Providing appropriate support for teachers, parents and students
  • Assisting in the recruitment, induction and onboarding of new teachers
  • Delivering up to 14 hours per week of teaching to the highest standards of ELT
  • Contributing to the development, evaluation and improvement of the Young Learner English language courses, materials and related services to ensure materials are of high-quality and meet customer needs.
  • Engaging in professional development and performance enablement to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning, and maintain British Council's position at the forefront of best ELT practices.
  • Supporting local marketing and promotional strategy. Support the Senior Teacher in organising and delivering events, such as Open Days.
  • Ensuring guidelines and policies are applied and upheld in relation to Safeguarding, Data Protection, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disability, Health and Safety.
Role specific knowledge and experience:

Essential
  • 1-year full-time post diploma (i.e., DELTA/Trinity DipTESOL) experience
  • Minimum of 1200 hours in teaching YL aged 5-17
Desirable
  • YL TESOL qualification e.g., TYLEC, CELTYL
  • Line Management experience
  • Knowledge and experience of the local Malaysian educational environment
  • PGCE/BEd in Primary / Secondary
Certification and Professional Qualifications
  • Recognised diploma in EFL i.e., DELTA/Trinity DipTESOL
  • Cambridge CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL
Education
  • Must be an undergraduate degree

Other details : We will only offer inbound flights and 2 weeks accommodation upon arrival for the successful candidate coming from overseas.

Requirements:
  • Candidates must have the right to live and work in the country in which the role is based.
  • Language requirements : Full Mastery of English across 4 skills, equivalent to CEFR C2 (IELTS Academic Paper Band 8/9 in each of the 4 sections).
