Role Overview:
The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for supporting the Project Manager in the planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects. The role ensures that all activities are carried out in accordance with project specifications, schedules, budgets, safety regulations, and quality standards. The Assistant Project Manager acts as a key liaison between site teams, consultants, clients, and subcontractors to ensure project objectives are achieved efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Coordination and Planning
Assist the Project Manager in developing project schedules, work programs, and progress plans.
Coordinate and communicate with consultants, clients, and contractors to ensure smooth project execution.
Monitor daily site operations to ensure alignment with approved schedules and technical specifications.
Review construction drawings and assist in resolving technical and site issues.
Support the preparation and submission of project-related documents, reports, and records.
2. Cost and Resource Management
Assist in tracking project budgets and expenditure to ensure financial control.
Verify subcontractor claims, progress payments, and variation orders
Coordinate procurement and delivery of materials and equipment to ensure timely availability on site.
Support the Project Manager in managing manpower allocation and monitoring work productivity.
3. Quality Assurance and Safety Compliance
Ensure that construction works comply with design specifications, quality standards, and statutory regulations.
Conduct regular site inspections and identify non-conformances for corrective action.
Collaborate with Safety Officers to maintain compliance with ISO, CIDB, and other regulatory standards.
Promote a safe working environment and adherence to all occupational safety policies and procedures.
4. Stakeholder Communication
Participate in coordination and site meetings and prepare minutes for documentation.
Maintain effective communication and professional relationships with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
Provide timely project updates and progress reports to management and stakeholders.
5. Documentation and Reporting
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of correspondence, drawings, and site documentation.
Assist in preparing project documentation including but not limited to completion documentation, handover reports, and defect rectification schedules.
Support the Project Manager in preparing claims, extensions of time (EOT), and other contractual documentation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in project management or site coordination within the construction industry.
Experience in building, infrastructure, or interior fit-out projects is preferred.
Familiar with construction standards and codes (CIDB, JKR, DOSH, or equivalent).
