Job Description


Main TaskDevelop and implement media and communications plan and activities for MASW and social work profession, with main focus on;

  • Demonstrate the value of social work and raising the status of social workers in Malaysia.
  • Promotion and raising the profile of MASW for funding opportunities.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the Communications strategy for MASW, including identifying which social media platforms are suitable to achieve the different target goal and audience, and can be sustained in the long term for MASW.
  • Key messages: Coordinate consultations with Excos, members and partners to develop key messages, narratives and advocacy and communication materials.
  • Producing assets and materials: Produce and develop communications materials for MASW\xe2\x80\x99s programmes, projects, trainings and activities, including the supervision of materials from concept work through to production. Oversee the qualitative aspects of such production (e.g. quality control, translation, review of layouts and graphic design).
  • Digital outreach and engagement: Manage MASW\xe2\x80\x99s social media platforms and website. This includes updating, producing and posting content on MASW\xe2\x80\x99s website and social media accounts, setting up additional social media accounts, etc.
  • Publicity and Media relations: Maintain and expand the database of media agencies and contacts for public relations engagement; Reach out and engage with media outlets on media campaigns to raise the visibility of social workers; support the organising of press events; coordinate interviews with TV, radio, print and social media agencies, etc.
  • Media materials: Prepare press materials such as media pack, press releases, speeches, fact sheets and human-interest stories to promote MASW\xe2\x80\x99s activities and achievements.
  • Monitoring, evaluation and Reporting: Monthly review of Communications activities to ensure goals are being met. Monitoring/evaluating social media engagements and monthly reporting/compiling number of reaches. Prepare relevant reports.
  • Fundraising: Prepare marketing collateral to support MASW Executive Committee and Executive Director in mobilizing funds and resources. Respond to funders needs for presentation materials, coordinate meetings with potential funders/partners, and ensure that funders requests are met.
  • Any other business: To carry out any other tasks assigned by the Executive Committee and Executive Director.
Job RequirementsRequirements and Skills
  • A Degree in Communications or Media Studies or Social Work or a related field (social science/human development/human rights), or equivalent work experience in an NGO focused on communications / fundraising work.
  • Minimum 2 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in similar role.
  • Experience in sourcing topics/contents, preparing media releases and developing relations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Proficiency in Tamil and Mandarin is an asset.
  • Good communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and ability to work with diverse groups of people. Good media liaison skills.
  • Excellent attention to details.
