The Controller plays a pivotal role as the primary finance representative for a legal entity or market, leading all aspects of the integration of various finance functions, such as GBS, FBP, FP&A, Indirect Tax, and Tax. Responsibilities include ensuring end-to-end finance and accounting operations run smoothly, adhering to IFRS, local tax, and statutory requirements, as well as maintaining controls in accordance with the Group Finance Manual, Minimum Acceptable Practices, and Sarbanes Oxley requirements.

What will you be doing?
The Controller must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, organizational savvy, and strategic planning abilities to ensure resilient service through effective staff backup structures. Collaboration with Cluster Controllers and other finance towers is crucial for a cohesive transactional finance service, involving the optimization of activities, approval of Standard Operating Procedures, and identification and migration of additional activities as needed. The responsibilities as follow:
Team Leadership and Development


  • Provide leadership within the cluster to guide, build, and develop a successful Finance team, focusing on high-quality deliveries while considering cost control and efficient resource deployment.

Compliance and Controls Management

  • Implement and maintain a robust controls culture and framework in the region to ensure adherence to the Group\'s Minimum Acceptable Practices framework, Finance Manual, and SOX methodology. Ensure compliance with financial and management accounting policies, managing policy changes, and resolving accounting issues.

Stakeholder Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with Cluster/Country Senior Management to review monthly financial results. Support continuous improvement initiatives, such as process standardization and business efficiencies. Foster relationships with external and internal auditors, lead all aspects of audit-related remediation plans, and partner with the business stakeholders for optimal commercial outcomes and effective financial processes. Lead project teams to achieve achievements and objectives and collaborate with transactional Services team for efficient control and insight objectives.


What will you need to be successful?
Success as a Finance Controller requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and critical thinking. Here are key elements that contribute to success in this role:

  • 10+ years of experience in reporting and controlling, with 3-5 years in a senior finance role managing multiple partners.

  • Collaborative work with global business services teams to resolve issues.

  • Solid understanding of SOx regulatory framework where applicable.

  • Experience in a listed entity with SOx requirements.

  • Sound understanding of end-to-end operational and financial controls, business processes, and reporting.

  • Teammate with excellent communication skills, adept at building relationships and influencing team members and wider partners.

  • Relevant industry experience, preferably in Medical Devices or Pharmaceuticals.

  • Fluent in Japanese; proficiency in the language is essential for effective communication in this market.

  • Experience with SAP, AX, and/or Hyperion.
