Inspection & Clearance: Conduct physical and documentary inspections of shipments to verify compliance with customs regulations and trade laws.
Documentation Management: Review, prepare, and process customs declarations, import / export permits, and related shipping documents to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Law Enforcement: Identify and report unlawful activities such as smuggling or tax evasion and collaborate with law enforcement agencies for necessary action.
Advisory Role: Provide guidance to importers, exporters, and internal stakeholders on tariff classifications, duty calculations, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of clearances, inspections, investigations, and regulatory actions.
Collaboration: Liaise with port authorities, customs agents, government agencies, and international bodies to facilitate smooth customs operations.
Policy Implementation:Assist in rolling out new customs policies and standard operating procedures; ensure stakeholder awareness and compliance.
Compliance & Budget Monitoring: Ensure activities align with ISO and company standards, and that customs-related purchases stay within allocated budgets.
Asset Oversight: Monitor and coordinate maintenance and repairs of logistics equipment and vehicles, including forklifts and lorries.
Qualification / Knowledge / Skill Requirement:
Education: Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Business Administration, Law, Logistics, or a related discipline.
Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of hands-on experience in customs clearance, trade compliance, or logistics operations (preferred).
Skills: Strong understanding of customs laws and trade regulations, excellent analytical abilities, attention to detail and effective communication skills.
Certifications: Certification in customs compliance, import/export procedures, or related training (preferred).
Technical Proficiency: Competent in the use of customs management systems and relevant software platforms.
Authority:
Conduct investigations and searches within the scope of legal and organizational guidelines.
Seize non-compliant goods or impose fines/penalties for customs violations.
Issue shipment clearance or hold orders based on inspection outcomes.
Recommend procedural or policy improvements to senior management based on field observations.
Working Condition:
Environment: Combination of office work and field assignments at ports, warehouses, and border checkpoints.
Work Hours: May require shift work, weekends, and public holidays depending on operational needs.
Physical Demands: Includes physical inspections, prolonged standing, and exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
Travel: Occasional travel required for inspections, stakeholder engagement, or inter-agency coordination.
