1. Position Overview
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for managing, securing, and optimising Meridian's databases across healthcare, fintech, and enterprise projects. The role ensures high availability, performance, and integrity of data systems while supporting development and operational teams. The DBA will also be involved in data governance, backup, disaster recovery, and regulatory compliance.
2. Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Maintenance
Install, configure, and maintain database systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server).
Monitor database performance and ensure system uptime and responsiveness.
Implement tuning, indexing, and optimisation for efficiency.
Data Security & Compliance
Implement user access controls, roles, and permissions.
Conduct regular database security reviews and audits.
Ensure compliance with PDPA, ISO standards, and healthcare/finance regulatory requirements.
Backup, Recovery & Continuity
Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery strategies.
Perform regular data recovery tests to ensure business continuity.
Support migration and upgrade projects.
Support & Collaboration
Work with developers, analysts, and system architects to support applications and integrations.
Assist in data modelling and query optimisation.
Provide technical support for troubleshooting database-related issues.
Monitoring & Reporting
Monitor capacity, usage, and performance metrics.
Generate reports on database health and performance for management review.
Recommend improvements and upgrades where necessary.
3. Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of database administration experience in enterprise or project environments.
Hands-on experience with
RDBMS (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server)
; NoSQL knowledge (MongoDB, Cassandra) is an advantage.
Strong knowledge of
SQL, database optimisation, and scripting languages (e.g., Shell, Python, PowerShell)
.
Familiar with
cloud-based database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL)
.
Understanding of data governance, data security, and compliance frameworks.
Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Good communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
Relevant certifications (e.g., Oracle DBA, Microsoft SQL Server, AWS Database Specialty) are an advantage.
