10am to 6pm (hybrid)

Role Overview

TESS is looking for a

senior-level database specialist

who can take full ownership of our relational database layer. You will be responsible for keeping our MariaDB environments healthy, fast, and reliable, and for guiding how data is structured and accessed across our systems.

This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable working with high-traffic, transactional systems and who enjoys tuning queries, planning capacity, and designing resilient setups.

Main Responsibilities

Design, configure, and manage

production-grade MariaDB environments

Plan and optimise

schemas, queries, and indexing strategies

Identify and resolve

performance issues

and slow queries Maintain

replication, backups, and recovery procedures

Work with backend developers to ensure

efficient data access patterns

Implement

security controls

, user permissions, and data protection practices Document configurations, SOPs, and operational procedures Provide

technical direction

for database decisions across systems

What We Are Looking For

Around

10+ years

working with relational databases Deep hands-on experience with

MariaDB/MySQL

Strong understanding of

query optimisation, ACID, indexing, and schema design

Knowledge of

replication, clustering, and HA strategies

Comfortable working on

Linux servers

and CLI tools Ability to collaborate closely with

Node.js backend teams

Bonus: Familiarity with

PostgreSQL, Redis, AWS/GCP cloud databases

, or clustering tools
