Job Summary



The Junior Shipyard Engineer supports shipyard operations involving vessel maintenance, repair, modification, and construction activities. This role assists senior engineers and project teams in ensuring works are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with technical specifications, marine regulations, and company standards. The position is suitable for fresh graduates or junior engineers seeking hands-on exposure in marine and shipyard engineering.

Key Responsibilities



Assist in planning, coordinating, and supervising shipyard repair, maintenance, and fabrication works for vessels, barges, and marine equipment. Support senior engineers in monitoring daily shipyard activities to ensure work progress follows project schedules and technical requirements. Prepare technical drawings, work scopes, inspection checklists, and progress reports. Coordinate with shipyard workers, subcontractors, and suppliers on work execution and material requirements. Conduct routine inspections on hull, machinery, deck equipment, and marine systems during repair or maintenance works. Ensure compliance with safety procedures, shipyard regulations, and company HSE policies. Assist in quality control checks and documentation for completed works. Participate in toolbox meetings, site meetings, and safety briefings. Maintain proper records of work progress, materials used, and maintenance history.

Requirements & Qualifications



Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related engineering field. Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply; prior shipyard or marine-related internship experience is an advantage. Basic knowledge of shipyard operations, marine systems, and vessel maintenance practices. Familiar with engineering drawings and basic technical documentation. Willingness to work in a shipyard environment and travel to project sites when required. Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, AutoCAD is an advantage). Physically fit and safety-conscious.

Working Conditions



Based primarily at the Batu Pahat shipyard. May require extended working hours depending on project requirements. Exposure to shipyard and marine construction environments.
