About the Role

A Junior Sous Chef is a middle-level kitchen management role, supporting the Sous Chef (or Head Chef) in operations. Here are typical responsibilities & required skills:

Responsibilities

Assist the Sous or Head Chef in overseeing day-to-day kitchen operations, especially during service. Supervise kitchen staff: assign tasks, provide training and coaching for junior cooks, ensure performance & standards. Ensure quality, consistency, and presentation of dishes are up to the restaurant's/hotel's standards. Monitor food safety, hygiene, and sanitation practices; ensure compliance with health department / internal policies. Help in menu planning & development: testing new dishes, suggesting improvements. Manage inventory: ordering supplies, checking stock, minimizing wastage. Control food cost, portioning, and yield to stay within budget. Assist with scheduling shifts, coordinating with other departments (F&B, events) when needed. Step in to manage operations in the absence of Sous/Head Chef. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety in the kitchen.
Skills / Qualifications

Training in culinary arts, or relevant experience (often 2-5 years in similar roles). Good leadership & communication skills. Solid cooking techniques across multiple cuisines (depending on the establishment). Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen hygiene. Ability to work under pressure, especially during busy service periods. Attention to detail (taste, presentation, consistency). Good sense of timing, coordination, teamwork. Some roles may require flexibility in hours (nights, weekends, holidays) and ability to stand long hours.

Pay: RM3,400.00 - RM4,000.00 per month
