Job Description


Kitchen Supervisors oversee the day-to-day activities of the kitchen, including cleaning equipment, checking supplies and rotating food stock. Responsibilities displayed on sample resumes of Kitchen Supervisors include training workers in food preparation, service, sanitation, and safety procedures; and observing and evaluating workers and work procedures to ensure quality standards and service.

Attention to Detail

  • When the temperature of a bowl of water can mean the difference between a successful dinner service and a health code violation, it\'s essential that Kitchen Supervisors have an extremely keen attention to detail.
  • You will be working in a Non-Halal Restaurant.
High Energy
  • There are few work environments which are as fast paced as that of a kitchen, so Kitchen Supervisors need to be able to stand, walk and talk for hours at a time without getting overwhelmed.
Ability to Multitask
  • Since any restaurant kitchen will always have multiple things happening inside IT at the same time, Kitchen Supervisors must be great multitaskers who aren\'t easily flustered or confused.
Communication Skills
  • Without superb communication skills, Kitchen Supervisors would be unable to train staff, correct mistakes, keep tabs on kitchen activities, ensure quality or adequately perform just about any other aspect of their job.
Cooking Skills
  • Unlike a General Manager, Kitchen Supervisors are directly involved in food preparation. Because of this, employers require Kitchen Supervisors to have cooking experience, be able to follow recipes and know how to prepare various types of food.

Responsibilities

Monitor Staff
  • Besides scheduling hours and assigning tasks, Floor Supervisors keep an eye on how others are performing. They offer guidance and feedback in order to help the employees do their jobs better, and they take responsibility for terminating if improvement doesn\'t happen. When employees have questions, they know they can turn to the Floor Supervisors for assistance. If interpersonal conflicts develop between staff members, the Floor Supervisors work to resolve matters.
Upkeep Facility
  • A clean, well-maintained facility attracts customers and promotes safety. Floor Supervisor stay aware of their surroundings and take action as needed, such as assigning someone to clean up a spill, or hiring pest control. They also ensure the outlet and its workers comply with health and fire regulations, such as keeping exits clear and observing proper food storage techniques.
Maintain Operations
  • When a crowd is unusually large, a staff member calls in sick, or the kitchen is getting behind on orders, Floor Supervisors pitch in to keep operations flowing. Actions might include running a cash register, delivering orders, refilling drinks, or cleaning tables.
Interact with Guests
  • When a visitor is dissatisfied with an order, the Floor Supervisor steps in to rectify the problem. Floor Supervisors also may check in on diners to ensure everything is going well and to thank them for coming.
Conveying Knowledge
  • Expertise about the menu allows Floor Supervisors to converse intelligently with guests. Floor Supervisors should be able to explain ingredients, preparation techniques, and available substitutions. They stay current on new or changing options, such as the soup of the day or seasonal offerings. Suggesting which wines pair well with given entrees and pointing out house specialties can further enhance meals.
Addressing Questions and Issues
  • When a salad contains the wrong dressing, a spill requires a quick response, or a steak needs more time on the grill, Floor Supervisors act to resolve the problem. Likewise, they may attend to basic customer requests such as shutting blinds to get the sun out of someone\'s eyes or providing directions to the washroom.

Keeping the outlet manager and other higher brass informed about activities, inventory, and ideas is part of being a lower-level leader. Floor Supervisor also may keep track of budgets and expenses, attend meetings, and assist in hiring new employees.

  • Monitoring inventory and ensuring that all food supplies and other restaurant essentials are adequately stocked.
  • Monitoring the restaurant\'s cash flow and settling outstanding bills.
  • Reviewing customer surveys to develop and implement ways to improve customer service.
  • Resolving customer complaints in a professional manner.
