Job Description


Professional, Full Time (Contract)The Laboratory Technician is responsible to assist Technical Officers and Academic staff in managing the laboratories in terms of preparing equipment, consumables and chemicals required for experiments. The incumbent is also responsible to maintain and ensure efficient handling of equipment, performs stock take and ensure stocks are sufficient and enforce safety requirement to staff and students in the labs at all time.Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with undergraduate, postgraduate students and academic staff on their needs for practical work including demonstrations and instructing students on use/care of equipment during experiments and enforce safety measures for all laboratory users.
  • Provide a clean, tidy and safe laboratory.
  • Ensure the security of laboratory resources including maintaining inventory and records keeping.
  • Monitor stock levels and initiate any ordering or requisitioning of materials as required.
  • Develop lab equipment maintenance procedures including servicing and cleaning general equipment.
Selection Criteria:
  • A diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
  • Minimum of two years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in electrical/electronic laboratory environment.
  • Working knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Working knowledge and practice in use of various laboratory equipment.
  • Experienced user of electrical, electronic and testing equipment.
  • Able to build electrical and or electronic units from scratch.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently in some activities and as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to learn new skills and techniques as new research areas develop.
