Each collaboration is unique and are formalized by a publishing deal between the rights owners and Warner Chappell Office. The deals office thus plays a vital role in Warner Chappell Music\xe2\x80\x99s business through managing this deals eco system from deal ingestion, review of deals modeling, key terms advisory, deals structure, and post-investment review. Under the direction of the Vice President, Regional Finance, along with the Senior Executives of all of Warner Chappell\xe2\x80\x99s offices in the Asia Pacific region, this role balances the publishing deal needs of the local territories and the direction of regional and global strategy. This is a newly created position for the Asia Pacific region based in Malaysia.

This role will provide insight into the deal-making process in the music publishing business and experience managing a robust and diverse flow of deals. You will interact with a diversified group of subject-matter experts to help craft offers and participate in the negotiation process. You will be a key team member liaising with senior management of Warner Chappell Music and respective affiliates of Warner Music Group in evaluating Asia deals, determining optimal deal structures, ensuring the deal models are supported by bulletproof backup, and presenting those deals to the various senior management teams as required. In collaboration with the Global team, you will maintain a deal model template that is easy to use and flexible but provides the necessary visibility to make solid investment decisions. You will gain knowledge of how a music publishing company works, including an understanding of the various ways we exploit and monetize our rights and intellectual property. You will also track past deals to monitor their performance against the various deal models.

Deal Planning and Strategy

  • Builds a close working relationship with the Asia Regional team, local MDs, and A&R team in the exploration of new and potential deals
  • Reviews and advises local teams on A&R spending amount, timing, and structure based on local and regional strategy, and budget targets
  • Coordinates and consolidates monthly A&R investment cashflow tracker and update significant potential deals to Regional and Global teams
Deals Appraisal and Review
  • Works with the local office to develop, review, and advise on the appraisal model template prescribed by Global Deals Office
  • Reviews and verifies accuracy and reasonableness of assumptions based on solid historical information used for appraisals
  • Obtains adequate understanding and awareness of creative direction, strategy, key terms, and copyright owners\xe2\x80\x99 expectations for potential deals and ensure it translates appropriately into the appraisal models
  • Coordinates approval process with Regional and Global teams, answering queries with the help of the local team and prioritizing win-win outcomes for copyright owners and WCM
Post Investment Review
  • Uses of historical analysis or deal tracking techniques, review and evaluate the execution and performance of deals
  • Performs periodic portfolio reviews on local markets and provides insight into risks and opportunities in A&R, and its relationship to financial targets such as Revenue and Net Profit Share margins
Key Performance Measurements
  • Provides leadership to Asia Pacific MDs, A&R, and finance teams on the deal processes in a collaborative, effective, goal-driven, and results-focused environment
  • Provides strategic and deal-related support and direction to Asia Pacific top management team in various A&R deals
  • Management of the workload in a thorough, prompt, accurate, presentable, and, where appropriate, confidential manner

  • Exemplary writing skills in English and Mandarin as this role supports China, Hong Kong and Taiwan office
  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and understand materials and documents, and to recognize and extract critical data and information.
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines and commit to turning deal analysis around quickly to ensure the company competitive in the marketplace.
  • A creative mindset for deal structuring is some of the necessary attributes required to succeed in this role.
  • Strong communication skills in English and English and Mandarin as this role supports China, Hong Kong and Taiwan office. Other Asian language is a plus.
  • Professional qualification with a recognized global or international accounting body (CPA, ACCA etc) or financial analytics/modeling.
  • Willing to travel as required
