BASF has been operating in Malaysia for more than 30 years, through a number of wholly-owned companies and joint ventures in the country. BASF (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd was incorporated in 1989, and operates main office in Bandar Utama and a manufacturing plant in Pasir Gudang in Johor, as well as an operational site in Kulim, Kedah. BASF Asia-Pacific Service Centre Sdn Bhd began its operation in 2005. Located in Kuala Lumpur, the Shared Services Center provides functional services in the areas of finance, controlling, information services, human resources, environment, health & safety, procurement and import-export order management to BASF Group companies in 19 markets across Asia Pacific. BASF Services (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, established in 1997, provides infrastructure and utilities support services to BASF sites in Malaysia. BASF holds 60% of its joint venture BASF PETRONAS Chemicals Sdn Bhd, which operates a state-of-the-art Verbund production site in the Gebeng Industrial Zone, Pahang, and 50% of Toray BASF PBT Resin Sdn Bhd. Objectives of the Position

  • Ensure Safety & Environmental standards are maintained at all production and office locations across MY/SG
  • Ensure BASF Responsible Care Goals are actively supported and followed across MY/SG
  • Provide consultancy and support to all sites in Malaysia and Singapore to fulfill legal and BASF requirements
Main Areas of Responsibilities and Key Activities

ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION (includes Energy Management & Remediation)
  • MY/SG focal point of the EHS data base for global reporting. Ensure the reporting from MY/SG are accurate and all data being publicized are consistent and reliable
  • Provide consultancy to environmental compliance matters, e.g. air quality monitoring program, waste-water management, remediation, third party service provider (environmental facilities and services) audits.
  • Act as Competence Center for Environmental Protection and be subject matter expert in MY/SG
  • Ensure regulatory compliance in Environmental Protection by establishing a legal compliance process. (i.e. mechanism on tracking and collecting issues & regulations and identifying roles & responsibilities to support the gap analysis & gap filling measures and monitoring the implementation schemes).
  • Implement BASF Group EHS Guidelines, Directives and Standards, e.g. Environmental Protection G-R-ENV 001, Energy Management G-R-ENY 001
  • Facilitates transfer of knowledge and best practices -and provides technical EHS expertise, trainings and support as required.
  • Report environmental and energy performance to internal and external parties including the country management and regulatory bodies.
  • Support in environmental incidents and investigations
  • Coordinates and follow-up on the establishment of ISO 50001 Energy Management System at relevant site
  • Support in developing MY/SG site's executive summary and updates in GINA database (remediation)
  • Update Risk Reporting monthly/annually on Remediation, Soil & Groundwater Contamination to regional expert
OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY
  • Act as competence center and subject matter expert in the country for Occupational Safety. Provide advisory and consultancy services to the sites.
  • Consults and support incident management & reporting in the system, i.e. Local AIMS; Global Incident Database (GID)
  • Support site contractor management including performance evaluation. Ensure contractor safety management and implementation, e.g. on-site operation, work permits, PPE, fall protection, electrical equipment/tool, housekeeping, dust control, radiation protective plan, noise control, etc.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance in Occupational Safety by establishing a legal compliance process. (i.e. mechanism on tracking and collecting issues & regulations and identifying roles & responsibilities to support the gap analysis & gap filling measures and monitoring the implementation schemes).
  • Implement BASF Group EHS Guidelines, Directives and Standards, e.g. Occupational Safety G-R-OSA 001, EHS Reporting G-R-REP 001
  • Facilitates transfer of knowledge and best practices -and provides technical EHS expertise, trainings and support as required.
  • Report Occupational Safety performance to internal and external parties including the country management and regulatory bodies.
Job Requirements (minimum requirement to carry out the work)

Education
  • Bachelor degree with major in EHS, Environmental Science, Chemical or Environmental Engineering. Master degree/PhD is an advantage.
Working Experience
  • At least more than 8 years total work experiences mandatory
  • At least more than 8 years work experiences in specific professional field (as an Environment Engineer/Specialist or EHS Specialist) preferable.
  • At least more than 5 years work experiences in chemical and petrochemical industry preferable
  • Experiences dealing with relevant stakeholders/authorities such as DOE, DOSH, NIOSH etc
  • International experiences will be an advantage
  • Leadership experience preferable
Technical & Professional Knowledge
  • Proficient command of written and spoken English skills mandatory (or equivalent IELTS Score Band 6)
  • Good understanding on ISO 14001, ISO 50001, ISO 9001
  • Ability to manage and lead multiple matters /projects simultaneously preferable
  • Strong Interpersonal /Influencing skills, independent, analytical and strategic skills preferable
