Develop and understand detailed mechanical designs for process systems including waste oil treatment, filtration, distillation, dehydration and blending units.
Translate process requirements from PFDs and P&IDs into mechanical equipment
Perform design calculations for pressure vessels, piping and rotating equipment.
Ensure compliance with design codes such as ASME, API and ISO relevant to recycling and refinery applications.
2. Equipment Specification & Selection
Prepare and check data sheets, technical specifications and requisitions for mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, separators, heat exchangers and storage tanks.
Review and evaluate vendor quotation and technical documents.
Knowledge of materials which are compatible with waste oil contaminants, chemical cleaning agents and corrosion factors.
3. Project Engineering & Execution
Support project planning, cost estimation and mechanical scope definition for ISBL (Inside Battery Limits) and OSBL (Outside Battery Limits) facilities.
Review equipment layout and 3D plant models to ensure accessibility, maintainability and safety.
Participate in HAZOP, HAZID and design review sessions.
Provide technical support throughout fabrication, inspection, testing and installation phases.
4. Construction, Commissioning & Operation Support
Supervise mechanical construction works including erection, alignment, hydrotesting and commissioning of equipment.
Assist in mechanical completion checks and punch list clearance.
Support plant start up, troubleshoot equipment issues and provide engineering solutions during performance testing.
5. Safety Quality & Environmental Compliance
Ensure designs adhere to DOSH, DOE and CIDB Malaysia requirements.
Promote safe engineering practices in line with refinery standards and environmental sustainability goals.
Incorporate energy-saving and waste-minimization technologies in mechanical systems.
6. Maintenance & Reliability
Develop preventive maintenance procedures and reliability programs for rotating and static equipment.
Conduct root cause analysis for equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree/Diploma in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
3-5 years' experience in refinery, petrochemical or waste oil recycling plants.
Hands-on experience with distillation systems, heat recovery and oil-water separation equipment.
Strong understanding of process flow diagrams (PFD) and piping & instrumentation diagram (P&ID).
Proficiency in mechanical design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Caesar II, etc). or equivalent mechanical design tools.
Familiarity with API standards (API 610, 650, 682) and ASMStrong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
Good communication skills and coordination with multidisciplinary teams, contractors and vendors.
