Juara Turtle Project is a sea turtle conservation project based on Pulau Tioman. We make efforts to protect nesting sea turtles, their eggs and their habitat. We do this by conducting patrols, working with the Jabatan Perikanan, conducting research and documenting behaviors and nesting paterns.

We also do works with coral; conducting surveys with Reef Check Malaysia and propagating new coral on artificial structures to help stabilize damaged areas of local reefs.

JTP does work within the local community; we have set up a recycling program that collects recyclable waste from all the businesses in the village. We then process this with the help of volunteers (both from within and outside the village) and send it off the island to be processed on the mainland.

Further more we run educational sessions with tourists, local and international school children to try and raise awareness about the dangers faced by Malaysia\'s turtles and oceans.

Lastly we run a volunteer program, helping to promote ecotourism. This brings environmentally minded tourists from around the world to island, so that they can help with the conservation work we do and learn about why its important. But also helping to stimulate the local economy through use of local restaurants and businesses.
