About the job Senior Drilling Engineer

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Senior Drilling Engineer will play a crucial role in the planning, execution, and optimization of drilling operations. This position requires a seasoned professional with a strong background in drilling engineering, who can provide technical expertise and leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective drilling activities and also to develop sound Drilling Well Engineering designs and drilling programs in accordance with Mubadala Energy Drilling Well Engineering Standard (DWES), PETRONAS Procedure and Guidelines for Upstream Activities (PPGUA) and good oilfield industry practices.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Drilling Well Engineering

• Develop drilling program meeting the well objectives and at the same time in line with the Company policies, DWES, PPGUA and good industry practices.
• Ensure Well Basis of Design and Drilling Programs are developed based on the scope of works provided by Exploration and Reservoir Engineering Groups.
• Support Completion Engineer in developing well completion design, cost estimates and execution phase.
• Support the execution of the drilling and completion program to be in a safe, cost effective and efficient manner.
• Regular interface with the Exploration/Subsurface Dept to integrate exploration/subsurface well objectives and requirement are met.
• Interphase between Production, Project Engineering and HSE for potential SIMOPs operation
• Review process and procedures in effort to identify opportunities for continuous improvement of well design and operations by taking into account offset well lesson learnt, international and local best practice for cost reduction initiatives.

Staff Development (If any)

• Ensure all staff are properly trained to carry out their duties in a fully proficient manner
• Setting individual objectives, managing performance, recruiting qualified staff, developing, and motivating staff in order to maximise subordinate and departmental performance.
• Organize and supervise engineers to ensure that all works are based on established individual objectives. Manage performance, develop, and motivate them through formal and informal feedbacks in order to maximize individual performance.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to junior drilling engineers and support staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

Budget and Contract

• Input for Drilling expertise to the development of Mubadala Energy integrated multi-year Business Plan and Annual Work Programme & Budget. The Plan describes the necessary activities, resources, targets, milestones, costs, and deliverables.
• Ensure budget for drilling department are encompassing overall drilling & completion activities as per the approved BU activities schedule. Responsible in obtaining the approval internally and PETRONAS.
• Participate in tendering for drilling associated materials, supplies, equipment, and services. These include the preparation of drilling specifications & requirements, evaluations and until award of the contracts.

Drilling & Logistic Operations

• Ensure implementation of the drilling and completion programs in achieving well objectives within the Scope of Works and the Approval for Expenditure (AFE).
• Provide support to Drilling and Completion Operations to ensure they are carried out in accordance with the approved plans and procedures, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and efficiency.
• Collect and analyze drilling data to identify areas for improvement and implement best practices to enhance drilling efficiency and reduce costs.
• Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to drilling activities, including drilling reports, cost estimates, and equipment specifications.
• Work closely with exploration/subsurface dept to ensure well objectives are met during the execution phase.
• Support Drilling & Completion Operations in equipment loadout planning and preparations.
• Interfacing works for well testing contract preparation and execution.

Procurement & Contractor Management

• Manage drilling contracts in accordance with the agreed contract agreements and obligations. Familiarity to the contract T&C and exhibits are compulsory.
• Ensure efficient management of service providers and adherence to the contracts.

HSSE

• Ensure Drilling & Completion are in compliance to Mubadala Energy, PETRONAS and Government regulations.
• Supervise all process are carried out inline with company policies, procedures and regulations and international standard.

Assurance

• Support in providing audits and assurance against corporate standards and business objectives across all Mubadala Energy operations.
• Participate in peer reviews for drilling and well programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

Knowledge

• An Engineering Degree e.g. Mechanical, Petroleum, Mining or equivalent with a good understanding of Drilling technology and upstream processes.

Experience

• A minimum of 12 years of Drilling experience across multiple locations. PMCD, well completion and offshore work experience would be added advantage. (For senior level).
• Applicants between 8 to 12 are encouraged to apply (For non-senior level).

• Well engineering, well design, drilling operations, well completion knowledge, audits & reviews, project management, planning, resource allocation and negotiation skills.
• Good communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
