As a Senior Material Planner, you will be responsible for the organization, planning and supply chain management of all functions related to the introduction of New Products and materials management of Engineering Change in Smiths Detection Malaysia. You will have experience of configuring a system and agreeing the rules of engagement with your suppliers to achieve your inventory and service level objectives. You will be liaising with the Planning, Production, Quality and Procurement teams, the role holder will ensure that customer priorities are met and to establish product availability dates. The Senior Material Planner should be familiar with best practice in new product introduction and engineering change management in supply chain planning and be able to challenge the status quo to drive continuous improvement. The Senior Material Planner will be expected to lead and be a key contributor in cross functional and global improvement projects.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage a system driven material plan to support project, production, and sales order demands
  • Lead supply chain management of NPI projects, working with cross functional local and global stakeholders to ensure material availability
  • Escalate issues which are going to impact ability of supply chain to deliver product in future
  • Maintain monthly NPI slides working closely with Global NPI Manager to ensure clear cadence is communicated on the status of the project and any areas SDM needs support
  • Work with Global Supply Chain Management to implement standardized practices for purchasing, planning and factory materials management that ensure effective use of inventory and logistics resources
  • Defines and continuously improves the materials supply processes from all (3rd party and intercompany) vendors to the factory lines in a manner that eliminates non-value added activity and that supports a high efficiency production operation
  • Liaises with site P&T, Manufacturing and QA to ensure achievement of supply chain objectives with respect to new suppliers, new products introduction, engineering change and product quality
  • Work with Global Data Governance, Mechanical Engineering, Quality, Sourcing, and planning team on the introduction of ECNs and effectivity dates to minimize obsolescence and ensure material availability
  • Ensure material master in SAP configured correctly to achieve desired planning outcomes
  • Work with planning manager and supply chain manager on quarterly inventory obsolescence and co-ordinate scrap process
  • To identify and quantify, both in monetary and supply risk terms, opportunities for localization
  • Supporting business improvement programmes such as Continuous Improvement, Kaizen, Lean etc
  • Coordinate sourcing strategies with Supply Management and Customers
  • Working closely with vendors to ensure on-time delivery of materials. Pro-actively working with vendors to resolve any potential delay in material shipment
  • Build strong relationships with vendors
  • Other duties as required

The Individual
  • BS or MS in numerate subject preferred (Science, Business, Finance, Supply Chain, Engineering)
  • Professional certification (APICS, PMAC, CIPS, etc.) an advantage
  • A minimum of 5 years\' experience in advanced supply chain and logistics methods within an advanced equipment manufacturing or re-manufacturing organization
  • Experience in delivery Plan For Every Part or supply chain improvements highly desired
  • Experience in managing new product introductions to deliver results at pace
  • Experience working in electronics industry highly desired
  • Demonstrable experience of the configuration and management of advanced factory planning and inventory management methods
  • Experience of operating with a lean factory environment
  • Well-developed understanding of SAP or equivalent ERP system
  • The ability to persistently pursue and achieve results
