Role Purpose \xe2\x80\xa2 To maintain and enhance professional development and academic quality in the teaching center. \xe2\x80\xa2 To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English \xe2\x80\xa2 To provide learners with a rewarding and stimulating English language learning experience \xe2\x80\xa2 To support the wider aims of the British Council and its cultural relations mission Accountabilities \xe2\x80\xa2 Plan and deliver high-quality English language lessons that meet the needs of different customer groups, taking into account individual learning styles \xe2\x80\x93 up to the number of contracted teaching hours \xe2\x80\xa2 Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students\xe2\x80\x99 performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy and a sense of progress \xe2\x80\xa2 Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials, and related services, to meet students\xe2\x80\x99 needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team \xe2\x80\xa2 Complete teaching-related administrative tasks to specified standards \xe2\x80\xa2 Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning, and maintain the British Council\xe2\x80\x99s position at the forefront of best ELT practices \xe2\x80\xa2 Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students\xe2\x80\x99 understanding of contemporary UK \xe2\x80\xa2 Assist the teaching center team in delivering excellent customer service and upholding British Council Values and Behaviours \xe2\x80\xa2 Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas: o Child protection o Equal Opportunity and Diversity o Health and safety Qualifications Essentials \xe2\x80\xa2 Cambridge CELTA/ Trinity Cert TESOL \xe2\x80\xa2 Undergraduate/University degree in any discipline Desirables \xe2\x80\xa2 Recognized diploma in EFL i.e. Cambridge DELTA/Trinity Diploma or equivalent \xe2\x80\xa2 PGCE/B.Ed. in Primary/Secondary or equivalent \xe2\x80\xa2 CELT-YL extension/TYLEC Work Experience \xe2\x80\xa2 2 years post-certificate (i.e., CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL) experience \xe2\x80\xa2 Experience in teaching relevant age groups: \xef\x83\x98 Primary aged 6 to 10 (800+ hours) \xef\x83\x98 Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours) \xef\x83\x98 Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (300+ hours) \xef\x83\x98 Business/Corporate (adults) (800+ hours) Salary & Benefits \xe2\x80\xa2 Salary: MYR 6,476 (point 1) to MYR 8,341 (point 10) on the 18H Teacher salary scale depending on qualification and experience. Any additional teaching hours delivered are compensated with an hourly overtime rate \xe2\x80\xa2 Contract Hours: 29 hours & Contract teaching hours is 18 hours per week \xe2\x80\xa2 Duration: 24 months (Renewable) \xe2\x80\xa2 Accommodation Allowances: Other allowances include an MYR 400 per month housing allowance. We will also put you in touch with a local estate agent, and time off (during non-teaching hours) is given to find accommodation on the first arrival. \xe2\x80\xa2 Annual Leaves: Annual paid leave is 35 days fixed into the academic calendar in addition to applicable observed public holidays \xe2\x80\xa2 Other Allowances: Successful applicants applying from overseas will receive a single, economy-class flight into Malaysia and 2 weeks paid accommodation upon arrival. Baggage allowance and flights for partners or dependents are not applicable for this role. \xe2\x80\xa2 Work schedule: Kuala Lumpur teachers are expected to work both weekend days, with two consecutive weekdays off for over 40 weeks of the year. There are 35 leave days plus applicable public holidays. Leave is fixed into the academic calendar. Most teachers are currently timetabled to teach a mix of adult and YL courses (up to 12 hours across Saturdays and Sundays) with lighter weekdays. The bulk of the teaching is with Young Learners. Additional Information Passport requirements/ Right to work in the country: The post holder must have the right to work in Malaysia. To obtain a work visa from the Malaysia Immigration Department, expatriate post holders must have: \xe2\x80\xa2 A university degree \xe2\x80\xa2 Recognized teaching qualifications e.g. Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Cert TESOL \xe2\x80\xa2 At least two years of teaching experience \xe2\x80\xa2 Passport must be valid for a minimum of TWO years from the employment start date and contain at least SIX consecutive blank pages for the visa to be issued.
