Technical Engineering Manager - Platforms & Data (Insurance)
Role Overview
We are seeking aTechnical Engineering Manager - Platforms & Datato lead the design, delivery, and evolution of our core engineering and data platforms within a regulated insurance environment. This role combinesdeep technical leadership with people management and delivery ownership, ensuring our platforms are secure, scalable, compliant, and aligned to business strategy.
You will partner closely with product, underwriting, claims, actuarial, and business teams to enable digital insurance products, analytics, and data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
Define, own, and communicate thetechnical vision, architecture, and standardsfor engineering and data platforms.
Lead theend-to-end deliveryof platform and data solutions, from design through build, testing, and production deployment.
Oversee the development of:
APIs and integration frameworks
Data pipelines, analytics, and reporting platforms
Shared services supporting underwriting, claims, pricing, and customer journeys
Ensure solutions meetnon-functional requirementsincluding scalability, performance, availability, security, and resilience.
Enforce architectural standards, cloud best practices, andregulatory, risk, and compliance requirements(e.g. data privacy, auditability, retention).
Delivery Execution & Resource Management
Plan and manage engineering and data resources across multiple squads, ensuring effective capacity planning and prioritisation.
Collaborate with Product Owners, Delivery Managers, and business leaders to align technical delivery withinsurance business priorities and regulatory timelines.
Track delivery milestones, dependencies, and risks; proactively resolve technical and delivery challenges.
Drive continuous improvement in engineering productivity, tooling, and delivery practices.
Team Leadership, Mentorship & Culture
Lead, mentor, and develop engineers and data professionals, fostering a culture oftechnical excellence, accountability, and continuous learning.
Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and career development of technical talent.
Champion agile and DevOps practices, facilitating ceremonies and promoting iterative, value-driven delivery.
Encourage strong engineering disciplines including code quality, automated testing, documentation, and operational ownership.
Stakeholder Engagement & Strategy
Act as a trustedtechnical advisorand liaison between engineering teams and business stakeholders.
Communicate complex technical concepts, risks, and trade-offs clearly to non-technical audiences.
Provide strategic input intoplatform roadmaps, vendor selections, and long-term scalability decisions.
Support enterprise initiatives related to data strategy, platform modernisation, and digital transformation.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
8+ yearsof experience in software engineering, data engineering, or platform architecture.
3+ yearsin a technical leadership or people management role.
Proven experience delivering complex solutions inagile, cross-functional environments.
Strong hands-on knowledge of:
Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
API design, integration patterns, and middleware
Data platforms, pipelines, and analytics architectures
DevOps, CI/CD, and modern engineering practices
Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
