JOB DESCRIPTION - TNB SMART METER WIREMAN (PW4 ONLY)

Job Summary

The PW4 Smart Meter Wireman is responsible for carrying out installation, replacement, inspection, and basic troubleshooting of TNB smart meters at customer premises

in compliance with Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) regulations and TNB standards

. The PW4 qualification authorizes the wireman to handle 1-phase and 3-phase meter wiring in accordance with TNB technical requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Perform

installation and replacement of TNB Smart Meters (1-phase & 3-phase)

in accordance with TNB SOPs. Conduct pre-site inspections including main wiring assessment, incoming/outgoing connections, polarity checks, and earthing verification. Carry out

post-installation functional tests

, including: Voltage & current tests Polarity test Smart meter communication test (RF/PLC/4G) Ensure all installations comply with TNB standards: TNB Metering Standards Distribution Code Smart Meter Deployment Guidelines Handle basic troubleshooting such as communication failure, loose wiring, tripping issues, or abnormal readings. Complete all required documentation: TNB installation forms Before/after photo evidence GPS/location confirmation Data entry via TNB apps (MWM / Field Service App) Fully comply with

Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) Electrical Regulations

and TNB safety protocols. Use PPE correctly and follow LOTO and TNB safety rules. Provide basic explanations to customers regarding smart meter functions.

Required Qualifications

PW4 Competent Wireman

(Certified by Suruhanjaya Tenaga - ST).

Valid ST Competency Card

TNB Safety Passport

or

TNB Authorised Person (AP)

(if required by project)*.
Strong technical knowledge of

3-phase and 1-phase wiring

according to TNB standards. Valid Class D driving licence (preferred).

Required Skills

Proficient in handling electrical testing equipment: Multimeter Insulation tester Phase rotation tester Test pen Ability to troubleshoot basic smart meter communication issues (RF/PLC/4G). Able to read TNB wiring diagrams and installation schematics. Strong documentation skills and ability to use mobile work applications. Able to work independently or in a team.

Highly disciplined and compliant with TNB & ST safety procedures. Detail-oriented, responsible, and reliable in field operations. Able to work outdoors and follow tight schedules. Good communication skills with customers and team members.
