Responsible for the day-to-day operations of a bakery or pastry kitchen. You collaborate with the head baker on daily tasks and schedules and oversee other pastry chefs or kitchen staff in the absence of the head pastry chef. In addition to making pastries and breads, other duties include assessing inventory and supplies, maintaining safe and sanitary working conditions, helping develop recipes and menus, and/or suggesting alternative baking methods. Primary responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 1. Assist the Pastry Chef in pastry preparation, production and presentation activities. 2. Report to the Pastry Chef about kitchen and storage equipment repairs, maintenance and malfunctions. 3. Record food spoilage and communicate to the Pastry Chef. 4. Order and stock food products in coolers and freezers according to food storage standards. 5. Ensure stock rotation to minimise wastages. 6. Adhere to sanitation, cleanliness, health and safety regulations. 7. Ensure kitchen equipment and supplies are maintained clean and sanitised. 8. Assist to develop new menus and test new recipes. 9. Set daily priorities and inform changes in assignments that may arise anytime. 10. Interact with guests, get their feedback and record their complaints. Requirements & Skills: 1. Proven pastry and baking experience 2. Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently 3. Communication and teamwork skills 4. Up to date with food and beverages trends and best practices 5.
