The resort consists of 499 guest rooms, a 64-acre nature reserve, the Rasa Ria Reserve, home to wildlife including long-tailed macaques and slow lorises, and home to an 18-hole championship golf course with picture-perfect views of Mt Kinabalu (a UNESCO World Heritage site).

We are looking for a Director of Safety & Security who will be responsible for an effective and efficient operation of the Security Department in ensuring the security and safety of the buildings and its contents, safety of the guests and employees, prevention of accidents and incidents and liaison with relevant government agencies, and provide guest service in accordance with the objectives, performance and quality standards established by the Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.

Job Summary

  • To look after the security and safety of all employees, guests, and all visitor types in the perimeter of the resort and golf course
  • Review, revise, maintain, and implement the organizations\' fire prevention, safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Train and coach, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Crisis Management Team (CMT)
  • Conducts risk management audits and asset loss investigation.
  • To review audit recommendations regarding all Safety & Security features for the resort, golf course and its perimeter.
  • Develops and maintains good employee relations through intelligent interpretation and conscientious application of the hotel\'s personnel policies.
  • Handles disciplinary action and liaise with Human Resources Department accordingly.
  • To be in total control of all the keys in the Resort.
  • Personally attends all large functions which may pose a security problem.
  • To organize yearly Safety Awareness Campaign in conjunction with Public Bodies - BOMBA, Civil Defense, St. John\'s Ambulance of Malaysia etc.
  • To conduct quarterly fire evacuation drills for all staff.
  • To set goals for the department on a regular basis.
Requirement
  • Minimum 3 years in similar capacity in an international class hotel
  • Preferably holding the rank of Captain in Armed Forces or Inspector in Police
  • Degree / Diploma in any discipline
  • Oral and written fluency in English and local language(s). Knowledge of foreign language(s) is an advantage
  • Well-articulated and can interact with all levels of external and internal stakeholders
  • Good knowledge of firefighting, safety regulations and first aid. Knowledge of unarmed combat and use of firearms is an advantage.
  • A self-starter, strong and decisive personality, sensitive to guest and staff need, and a positive role model
  • Neat and pleasant disposition, well built and fit
  • Possess valid driving license
  • Able to work flexible hours.
