Overview / Responsibilities

Wood has an immediate requirement for a Junior Cost Controller to join our team at our Kuala Lumpur office on permanent staff.

This role is to provide cost, planning and risk assessment support to Wood Consulting service line assignments / project teams and clients. In addition, supporting the Lead Project Controller where required.

The Junior Cost Controller will be able to set up and run all required project controls systems, tools and interfaces to enable the successful management and reporting of the project costs, planning and risk on projects and specific assignments.

A Junior Cost Controller is a wide ranging and hands on role that interfaces with a number of key stakeholders across the project. The principle purpose of this role is to support the Lead Project Controller and the Service Line / Project Manager in the collation, analysis and reporting of project cost, planning and risk data.

  • Ensure alignment with the project reporting requirements and ensure timely and accurate cost and progress reporting.
  • Ensure that a professional Project Controls service is delivered to all internal and external customers on behalf of Wood
  • Act as the focal point with the client and any contractor Project Controllers as appropriate, to ensure costs and progress are reported accurately
  • Manage the project work approval process in terms of accurate cost code allocation and initial budget set-up and approvals
  • Coordinate development and issue project change orders / variations in accordance with contract / assignment change notifications
  • Monitor cost impact of achievement / non achievement of project milestones
  • Raise PAFs and maintain PAF Register
  • Production and maintenance of project S-Curves and Histograms
  • Reporting of planned v\xe2\x80\x99s actual progress figures
  • Identification, monitoring and reporting against the project critical path providing early warning to the Project Manager of any potential slippages
  • Monitor current and assess future resource needs for the project and programme through analysis of workload at project level
  • Raise purchase requisitions and place POs on suppliers for projects
  • Reporting of project costs data, providing the following :
  • Budget Values (Original and Current)
  • Expended Values
  • Earned Values
  • Productivity Figures
  • SPI \xe2\x80\x93 Schedule Performance Index
  • CPI \xe2\x80\x93 Cost Performance Index
  • FTC - Forecast to Completion
  • FAC \xe2\x80\x93 Forecast at Completion
  • Variance to Budget
  • Tracking of and input into the change management system
  • Assist in ensuring that project related data (e.g. RTS, purchase orders, proposals, timesheet records and expense records) are complete and accurate in Oracle
  • Assist Project Accountants and Billing Specialists in the Billing process and any other cost related queries
  • Attendance at weekly client progress meetings if required
  • Assist with the preparation of proposal schedules and CTR packs
  • Ensure Project Controls processes and procedures are accurate, up to date and followed
Skills / Qualifications
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Engineering, Science, Business Studies or other relevant subject
  • Membership of appropriate professional institute or association
  • 2+ years in Project Controls roles
  • Scheduling skills and Power BI experience preferred but not essential
  • A successful and proven track record in Cost Control and some Planning
  • Experience with systems engineering and project life-cycles and the programme management of such projects, preferably within the oil and gas sector
  • Knowledge of cost management, planning and risk analysis systems together with ability to consolidate data from a number of sources for overall presentation
  • Advanced Working Knowledge of Oracle
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the core principles of Contracts Management, Commercial Management and Project Management
  • Knowledge and application of earned value and other monitoring techniques
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently
  • Ability to build exemplary working relationship with clients with professional service focus
  • Exceptional organisational skills and able to multi-task.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with sensitive matters appropriately.
  • Demonstrated analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving expertise, with the ability to maintain composure, balance workload and manage conflicting priorities
