The Laboratory Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the overall operations of the Mechanical Testing and Calibration Laboratory. The role ensures all laboratory activities are executed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards. The incumbent will lead a team of engineers and technicians, uphold high testing quality, and ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations within the oil & gas, energy, and industrial sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Lab Operations:

Oversee day-to-day laboratory activities and lead a team of engineers and technicians to ensure smooth, safe, and cost-effective laboratory operations. Supervise and monitor laboratory performance to ensure testing, calibration, and inspection activities are executed accurately and efficiently. Upkeep and monitor laboratory conditions to ensure full compliance with operational, safety, and environmental regulations. Manage laboratory licenses, records, and ensure safe operation, maintenance, and calibration of all testing and measuring equipment. Handle procurement of laboratory equipment, consumables, and materials, ensuring timely replenishment of laboratory supplies to support continuous operations. Monitor, manage, and report laboratory budget usage, and assist in financial reporting, budget projection, and planning. Plan, coordinate, and perform calibration activities, troubleshoot equipment performance issues, and liaise with internal departments and external service providers for technical support. Review and approve test reports and documentation to ensure data integrity and accuracy before submission to clients or management. Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to enhance testing efficiency, consistency, and quality control. Coordinate with cross-functional teams and project leads to support laboratory testing requirements for Oil & Gas, Energy, and Industrial projects.
Quality & Safety:

Maintain and enforce quality assurance procedures and ensure the laboratory's Quality Management System complies with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements. Perform internal audits, identify non-conformities, and lead the implementation of corrective and preventive actions to maintain accreditation status. Ensure accurate and traceable documentation of testing activities, calibration records, and quality control data. Manage laboratory safety, enforce safety rules, and ensure compliance with all applicable safety and environmental regulations. Conduct safety orientations, toolbox briefings, and ongoing safety training for new and existing employees. Serve as First Aider, Fire Warden, Spill Responder, and active Safety Committee member, ensuring emergency readiness and adherence to HSE protocols. Promote a strong safety culture, encouraging continuous improvement and accountability across all laboratory operations.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement

Lead, train, and develop the laboratory team to enhance technical competencies and professional growth. Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in testing methodologies, data management, and equipment utilization. Evaluate new technologies, testing techniques, and automation solutions to enhance laboratory capability and efficiency. Prepare and present operational reports, performance summaries, and improvement plans to senior management.

Pay: RM12,000.00 - RM14,000.00 per month
