Job Description






In this position you will...
...be a member of bolttech\xe2\x80\x99s Office of General Counsel, the leader of the local legal and compliance team and a member of bolttech\xe2\x80\x99s local leadership teams, you will lead the legal, company secretarial and regulatory compliance functions supporting the bolttech business in Malaysia. You may also be asked to support the bolttech Group legal and compliance function in respect of tasks in other locations, from time to time.



You will be responsible for...

  • Provide proactive, practical, solution-oriented legal advice to the business based on interpretation of applicable laws and regulations to help make informed decisions with an appreciation of potential risks
  • Preparing various legal documentation such as memorandums, presentations, knowledge sharing
  • Providing legal advice as required from time to time by various stakeholders including to propose viable legal solutions/approaches
  • Reviewing and drafting legal documentation such as non-disclosure agreements, business contract addendums/extensions and operational related contract, contract renewals and terminations
  • Conducting research and drafting reports and summaries of research and external advice and case law
  • Liaising and coordinating with external parties such as external counsel to support business project
  • Compiling, preparing, and maintaining proper files/records of relevant documentation such as Board resolutions, minutes, and Chairmans\xe2\x80\x99 briefs etc.
  • Preparing and filing notices and documentation and supporting \xe2\x80\x98know your customers\xe2\x80\x99 due diligence processes
  • Maintaining the contract repository for Malaysia and other management information databases including assuring quality and completeness
  • Reviewing and monitoring new and updated laws and regulations
Compliance
  • Assisting with compliance policy implementation and rollout in coordination with the Group Legal and Compliance
  • Oversee and control compliance of ethical conduct, conflict of interests, and operational principles
  • Develop and oversee control systems to prevent or deal with violations of legal guidelines and internal Policies and Procedures
  • Discuss emerging compliance issues with management and or employees
  • Responsible for having all documents, permits and licenses necessary to operate as an Insurer, updated and posted on a visible place and deal with its renewal
  • Data protection compliance Policy and Practices
  • Report violations of compliance or regulatory standards to duly authorized enforcement agencies as appropriate or required
Management
  • May eventually involve potential direct line management of 2-3 paralegal team members

You will require the following qualifications and skills
  • Law Degree (or equivalent) holder (Degree in Accounting/Business desirable) and Qualified Legal Practitioner in Malaysia
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience either in private practice or in an in-house legal function. Previous experience of working in or alongside compliance, risk, audit, or related areas would be beneficial
  • Strong understanding of principles of risk management and related methodologies
  • Knowledge of insurance business, and sales and distribution contracts is desirable
  • Regulatory compliance knowledge within Financial Services is desirable and ability to apply it to business products and processes
  • Demonstrated relevant technical skillset including some knowledge of data privacy, financial crimes regulations and corporate law
  • Strong computer skills, software proficiency (MS Office) and willingness to adopt new technologies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
