Job Description


To build and manage a high performance team to drive the communications, marketing and PR strategy of The Lost Food Project (TLFP) in Malaysia. Reporting to the CEO you will have overall responsibility for planning, executing and managing of all projects related to corporate engagement, media, fundraising, branding and advertising. Your initial focus will be to expand the ongoing fundraising activities and to formalise Communications and PR objectives.

Reporting to the CEO your key responsibilities will include strategic planning and executing a variety of projects across corporate engagement, fundraising, branding, media and advertising.

Your initial priority will be to expand fundraising activities at TLFP such as CSR days hosted at the TLFP Warehouse to attract and retain corporate donors and volunteers. To support your efforts there is approval to recruit an additional staff member who will report to you and assist you as you familiarise yourself with the operations of TLFP and work closely with the CEO, Founder and Committee to develop a PR & communications strategy to elevate and position TLFP to help more people in need.

This is a strategic role encompassing managing the media and producing marketing materials consistent with TLFP\'s brand such as website copy, digital content for donation platforms & social media as well as representing TLFP at various industry events. Your ability to create beautiful collateral and clean, clear, visual social media posts using your advanced skills in graphic design, copy writing, printing and publishing will be vital as we continue to develop these skills in-house.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Work with all TLFP stakeholders including staff, volunteers, beneficiaries and donors to generate new ideas and create an integrated marketing strategy.
  • Develop and implement creative marketing and communications strategies and campaigns to acquire, convert and retain donors.
  • Build the capacity and performance of the PR and Communications Department and define key performance indicators to measure each campaign\'s success.
  • Create internal communications initiatives to engage new volunteers and retain our loyal team of existing volunteers.
  • Plan, create and manage the design, content, and production of marketing materials (including engaging visual content such as photos/ videos) to ensure it is consistent with the TLFP brand, including copy for the website, donation platforms, social media (including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, MailChimp, etc.) and other communication channels as appropriate.
  • Represent TLFP at various industry events and press conferences.
  • Reach out to KOLs, media and beyond to arrange story placement on relevant platforms, and update/maintain Media/KOL and other related stakeholder databases.
  • Write media releases and briefs and respond to emails and communication related issues in a timely manner.
  • Write and distribute a newsletter on a monthly basis.
  • Manage and motivate a small team to expand the reach of TLFP\'s public relations and communications initiatives and be prepared to fill departmental gaps as necessary.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic communicator able to present ideas both verbally and in writing in a way that resonates with corporate and diverse audiences.

You must have experience defining key performance indicators to measure each campaign\'s level of success and be able to use this data to refine future marketing and PR strategies.

This position is well suited to a creative PR and communications professional with a Bachelors degree in communications, marketing or a related field with 7-10 years industry experience. A minimum of 12 months experience managing a junior staff member is essential as is a desire to continue to develop your skills to pro-actively manage and mentor others to produce their best work.

Experience at a Food Bank or within the food industry is highly desirable but it is more important you be curious to learn and share TLFP\'s commitment to reducing food waste and promoting sustainability.
