  • Expert and up-to-date knowledge of: applicable laws and regulations specifically Sarawak and Malaysia laws; international laws and treaties relating to arbitration and disputes, cross-border and transboundary issues; as well as best practices relevant to power and energy industries.
  • Ability to: quickly assimilate oral and written data; analyse facts and draw logical conclusions; drafting legal documents and instruments; and efficaciously provides sound and workable legal advice to enable Sarawak Energy meets their operational and business strategies and objectives.
  • In-depth understanding of internal and external good corporate governance and compliance practices and requirements as well as good business ethics, code of conduct and anti-bribery/corruption.
  • Highly developed skills in motivating and influencing people to achieve the end results. A passion and commitment to people development is therefore a must.
Special Challenges / Deliverables unique to this role
  • Advise on a range of legal matters, work closely with internal and external lawyers/advisors on Corporate Litigations/Arbitrations/Corporate Contracts relating to/arising from amongst others; land disputes, power purchases agreements, coal and gas supply agreement, joint venture agreements, to ensure legal compliance and avoid/reduce legal risk exposure to safeguard and protect Sarawak Energy and its group of companies in every aspect of their business and operations.
  • At all times, must be proactive and capable of working across multiple projects, and issues of varying complexity and value within a fast-paced as well as ever changing business environment. Play an integral role to the successful implementation of Sarawak Energy commitments under SCORE.
  • Perform all tasks in line with the Information Governance Policy Suite and Guidelines, Information Security Quality Manual (ISQM) and the ISMS roles and responsibilities procedure.
The Person
  • A Bachelor of Laws from recognised institution /university and having a broad and extensive experience of at least 10 years working as a legal practitioner or corporate lawyer. Having been admitted to the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak and/or having experience working as a Company Secretary is an added advantage.
  • Have wide experience in negotiation of contractual terms with external parties, including major local and international parties. Experience in power and energy supply and purchase, joint venture and/or cross boundary arrangements will be an advantage.
  • Strong appreciation of internal/external corporate governance, ethics and compliance requirements.
  • Strong management and leadership skill and experience.
  • A strategic thinker with a senior stint in a major organisation or multinational would be an added advantage.
