Career Growth Purpose of Job The primary purpose of this job is to manage, coordinate and implement tiger and prey monitoring programs in Tiger Conservation Programme Landscape and office project-related work of the Tiger Protection and Monitoring in the Tiger Conservation Programme. This position will work closely with the other units within the Tiger Conservation Programme as they complement each other and take place within the same landscape. This position will be based in Gerik, Perak with considerable amounts of time spent in the field. While the incumbent is responsible for specific deliverables related to the Tiger Conservation Programme, he/she will also be guided by and is expected to contribute towards the achievement of WWF-Malaysia Strategy 2021-2030 and Global Programme Framework (or their revised versions) directly or indirectly. As this position is within a programme that requires dynamic strategy review in tandem with the emerging variables, the incumbent is also expected to support larger and broader conservation initiatives in Peninsular Malaysia. Key Outputs 1. Coordinate fieldwork to collect wildlife data at identified sites and record the data in the standard Survey Data Form, and compile (key in) all data into the computer database. The data should include tracks and signs identified, locality, habitat, potential threats and other ecological/biological-related data. Evidence of wildlife presence and signs should be photographed and documented for record purposes. 2. Timely and informative update related to tiger and other wildlife, and prepare reports on the field work done with the assistance of the Manager, Tiger Protection and Monitoring. 3. Analyse data collected from field surveys with the assistance of the Manager, Tiger Protection and Monitoring, and generate strategies and measures towards the conservation of threatened species. 4. Establish or/and maintain close working relationship with stakeholders including funders, network offices and government agencies on Tiger Conservation. Major Activities / Core Responsibilities 1. Together with other officers, coordinate and oversee entire field teams in collecting data on tiger and other wildlife species, and poaching activities in the Tiger Conservation Programme Landscape (which is approximately 6,000 km2) by conducting camera-trapping, sign surveys and wildlife patrolling. The data should include tracks, scats and signs identified, locality, habitat, threats and other ecological/biological-related data. Evidence of wildlife presence, signs and poaching should be photographed and documented for record purposes. Fresh/recent poaching signs found must be reported to the local authority immediately according to Standard Operating Procedures put in place by the Tiger Conservation Programme. 2. Ensure field work for monitoring tigers and other wildlife can be carried out according to the work plan. 3. Co-lead the annual, quarterly and monthly planning of field work, logistics and implementation of other field activities in consultation with the supervisors and relevant partners. 4. Provides project updates and documentations as required by the supervisors for purposes such as revising and refining project strategy and work plan, internal and external reporting (periodically according to specified reporting schedules and/or as required), project monitoring and evaluation, and preparing project annual budget and presentations. 5. Manage wildlife data obtained from surveys (database is updated, information is compiled and verified before being analysed) and work closely with Data Analyst (or/and Manager for Protection and Monitoring) in conducting analyses, and interpret results from analysis for latest status of tigers and prey in the Tiger Conservation Programme Landscape and provide relevant management recommendations. 6. Collaborate closely with the supervisors and Tiger Lead to develop conservation strategies and measures at the landscape and national level, toward the conservation of tiger and other wildlife species in the Tiger Conservation Programme Landscape. 7. Collaborate closely with the supervisors and Tiger Lead in preparing and formulating any advocacy opportunities and priorities, which can be used to promote wildlife conservation in the Tiger Conservation Programme Landscape. 8. Collaborate closely with CEE Officers to engage with local communities within the Tiger Conservation Programme Landscape toward increasing awareness on wildlife conservation and protection. 9. Collaborate with the team members and stakeholders in understanding gaps, issues and conflict related to tiger conservation and develop appropriate solutions. 10. Collaborate with Communication Manager in the development of communication materials to promote WWF-Malaysia tiger conservation efforts. 11. Increased, establish and maintain good working relationship with key partners and stakeholders in the landscape such as Perak State Park Corporations, PERHILITAN, Perak Forestry, non-government agencies and local communities. 12. Represent Tiger Conservation Programme and when necessary, WWF-Malaysia on meetings and events on tiger or wildlife in the local and international arena via participation in conferences, workshops and meetings. 13. Ensure delivery of quality project outputs that are consistent with the targets and milestones of the Tiger Conservation Programme Strategy and associated projects. 14. Supervise Programme Officers/ Short-term contract staff/DPAs/ volunteers/interns as and when they are required. 15. Provide support for other units within the Tiger Conservation Programme whenever needed. 16. Conduct relevant awareness talks to the general public and local communities whenever needed. 17. Assist the supervisors to develop the study design, sampling protocols and analysis for monitoring work within the Tiger Conservation Programme Landscape according to the most recent scientific advances. 18. Assist the supervisors, in providing training for WWF-Malaysia\xe2\x80\x99s junior biologist, partners, stakeholders as and when required. Specifications 1. At least a degree in science, wildlife conservation or a related appropriate discipline. 2. A minimum of 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in the conservation field. 3. Willing to be based at project site and willing to accommodate flexible working hours (including weekends) and working in hostile and isolated conditions. 4. Familiarity with relevant statistical software such as R, PRESENCE. 5. Familiarity with ArcGIS or QGIS software. 6. Proficient use of MS Office, especially Excel, Word and Power Point. 7. Excellent oral and written communication skills in both Bahasa Malaysia and English. 8. Holder of a valid driving licence. 9. Pleasant disposition, hardworking, team-player and committed. Must be able to work with minimal supervision, both in the field and in the office. 10. Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate effective organizational skills. 11. Good interpersonal skills, innovative thinking, versatile ability to work in a team and work independently. 12. Good understanding of current issues especially having knowledge on environmental and conservation issues. 13. ABLE TO START IMMEDIATELY. Job Types: Full-time, Contract
